Summer Work Happens To Be Meager For Teens

By Jennifer McClelland

With unemployment at the elevated it is at present at, balanced over 9 percent, it looks like every one of those teens who have recently finished the school year are having a pretty difficult time finding work.

Because there are so many adults at this time on the lookout for work, many are accepting anything they are able to find, as well as those positions typically reserved for out of school teens.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics had a current review that tracked a decay in the quantity of youth that are participating in the job marketplace this year opposed to last year; its fallen 3%.

So with the deficiency of positions, what are teens doing? Well, it seems like they're forgoing the paying positions to be an unpaid assistant and do additional non-paying jobs during the summer, if for nothing else, solely to dodge of the home for a a small number of hours a day.

Some teens are even becoming entrepreneurs in their own right. Some have taken advantage of the season and started forming their own businesses for the summer, like lawn maintenance or pool cleaning. The best division of these teens beginning these jobs on their own is that they are able to provide work for their friends and normally earn more than minimum wage when there is work.

Presently the unemployment rate for 16 to 19 year old span is 21.5 percent, that's up from 15.4 percent in 2008. When you look at those levels, you need to keep in mind that only includes the teens that are actually actively seeking employment, not those who aren't.

I know that it is still tough to attain work. Residing in a university city, there are continuously college students looking for work, add on top of that out of school teenagers, then the fact that none of the businesses do the same amount of business over the summer as they do during a semester and it's basically a recipe for high unemployment. There are a number of restaurants looking for work, but it's all only part time work and the hours are scanty at best.

Subsequently, there are simply a lot of adults that have families to provide for that are in search of work at the identical locations. If I were a boss at one of the locations where teens frequently go to come across work, then I would be much more likely to employ the man or woman who needs to feed their family before I hired a 16 year old who just needs to put some minutes on their pay-as-you-go phone.
